This Content Area Instructional Toolbox has been designed around the principles of Universal Design for Learning. A variety of tools have been incorporated to aid in providing greater access to the general education curriculum for all students, and particularly those with disabilities.
This unit provides a chance for first grade students to get closer to and form a deeper understanding of the nature surrounding us. Trees are an integral part of everyday life- children may play in the leaves in the fall, sit under a tree on a sunny day, or climb trees in the park with their friends. In this unit, students will study trees and their importance to our quality of life. They will learn about:
-
Parts of a tree and their role
-
Identifying different types of trees
-
Life cycle/what trees need to grow
-
Products that trees provide
-
How animals use trees
-
Diversity of trees in our community
-
Value of trees to our schoolyard/neighborhood/planet
